Kazdn is currently in 7th grade at the School of Arts and Science (Thomasville Road location), “Home of the Dragons.” She enjoys all areas of academic learning, particularly Mathematics, Literacy, and Science. She participates in the school’s cheer/dance team, and a transformational learning program for girls ages 8 to 13, called Girls on the Run (GOTR). GOTR teaches life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons, running games, and 5k preparation. Kazdn has received several Dragon Awards at school, which have been recognitions for her academic motivation, kindness, and compassion toward her fellow learning community members, and willingness to face challenges with a positive and conquering attitude. Additionally, as an engaged learner, Kazdn is involved in many extra-curricular activities. They include:
- Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra (New Principal Second Violinist)
- Girls Rule, Inc. (a program to empower and build the next generation of female leaders)
- Girl Scouts (Troop 2214 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church)
- The Caleb Generation Choir and Youth Liturgical Dance Ministry (both at Bethel AME Church)
- Javacya Arts Conservatory (where she has studied violin with Patrice J. Minor-Floyd since age three)
Kazdn has had masterclasses with renowned virtuoso violinist Rachel Barton Pine, Australian cellist and doctoral candidate Amber Den Exter, violinist Emily Javarone, special tutelage with Sphinx Music Organization laureate violinist Mariana Green-Hill, renowned conductor, Dr. Julian White (retired music Chair, Florida A & M University, and Conductor-in-Residence, Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra), Guyanese conductor-composer Olivia Ahyoung, and Mr. Ralph Jean Paul, senior conductor, Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, she has received two separate fellowships to attend the 2017 and 2018 Sphinx Connect Seminar in Detroit, Michigan. As a member of the Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra, for individual performances, she has had the opportunity to accompany violinist Rachel Barton Pine, the Grammy-nominated Mad Violinist, internationally acclaimed trumpeter Scotty Barnhart, vocalist Darryl Tookes, pianist Joanna Sobkowska-Parsons, jazz sensation trumpeter, Longineu Parsons, and violinist Emily Javarone.
Kazdn finds the violin a most challenging instrument but appreciates the beauty of its sound and its role within the tapestry of the orchestra. Kazdn loves reading, traveling, watching movies, journaling, sketching, skating, and taking on various arts/craft/science/cooking projects. She cherishes time with family and friends. Her career path is unfolding, with current interests, including becoming a veterinarian or a marine biologist. While her destination is not presently known, what is known is that God embraces her. Her path is supported by a beautiful “village” of people, individually and collectively contributing to her life’s journey.
