The Florida Society Youth Orchestras Program (FSYO) is structured to provide the highest quality string training possible for preschool through middle school students.
All FSYO students participate in weekly group classes. Training includes the Royal Conservatory of Music curricula in music theory, music history with an on-site RCE (Royal Conservatory Examination ) testing center. Application of studies through recitals, community outreach concerts, masterclasses with conductors, faculty-artists from the States and abroad are the foundation of all training through the FSYO Orchestras programs. Additionally, the college music majors and graduate arts management students from local universities have internship opportunities through Javacya orchestral studies initiatives.
There are multiple orchestras for preschool, elementary, and middle school students, including:
- Wanda McDonald Youth Orchestra – First-time beginning violin and viola students (ages 5-9)
- Betty Jean Miller Cello Ensemble – First-time beginning cello students (ages 5-9)
- Leander A. Kirksey Youth Orchestra – Advancing intermediate level string students (ages 11-14)
- Wind and Brass Ensemble (NEW!) – Highly recommended brass students from the region (ages 11-14)
FSYO introduces musicality and performance concepts in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere tailored to enhance pre-college students’ development.
